A little background describing my feeling about painting.
Painting and drawing are the way I understand the world around me. It is the act of painting that excites me: it is like a dance and the paint is a way to express my feelings of joy induced by the beauty I find in things around me. My family lived next to bushland on Moreton Bay, Queensland and then lived in the Far North, finally settling in Noosa Heads. This meant that nature, landscape and flowers have been central to my life always. I was a life-long, self-taught artist until my middle age when a conversation with my teacher David Fairbairn, at a course at the National Art School, inspired me to properly commit myself to my work. A Bachelor of Fine Art (Majoring in Painting) at Queensland College of Art was a wonderful time for me. I work now, between studios in Brisbane and Noosa concentrating on still life and landscape. Figurative painting is a delight too but a shortage of models makes painting my direct environment an obvious choice for me. My garden gives me great subject matter for my still life and my surroundings in Noosa give me unlimited inspiration for either still life or the landscape. Painting is my heart’s music.
